Methodology

How our price figures are made

On every product page, Rcado shows what an item actually sold for used - as a range and median, never as an individual sale. Here you can read where the numbers come from and where their limits are.

Methodology as of:

01

Where the prices come from

  • Reported final prices. Anyone marking a listing as sold is asked for the actual sale price - voluntarily, and with the note that it only goes into the statistics anonymously.
  • No asking prices. Prices from expired listings without a sale report are currently not included - an asking price is not a sale price.
  • Matched sales only. A sale only counts for the catalogue product the listing was linked to. Custom builds have no product statistics.
  • Time window. The last 12 months are taken into account. Older sales drop out so that old prices don’t look current.

02

How it’s calculated

  1. Outlier exclusion: Sales outside 1.5 times the interquartile range (below Q1 − 1.5 × IQR or above Q3 + 1.5 × IQR) are not considered. In addition, individual reports can be marked as outliers manually.
  2. Minimum number: We only show range and median from 5 remaining sales of a product. Below that it says “Not enough sales yet for a price estimate” - we don’t estimate.
  3. Key figures: lowest and highest sale price (range), median and number of sales. The median is more robust than the average because individual very high or low prices barely move it.
  4. Saving: Difference between the median and the cheapest current new price from a retailer, or the RRP if there is no retailer offer.

03

What we don’t show

No individual sales, no sales data of individual people and no statistics below 5 sales. So the price figure never reveals who sold what, when, at what price.

04

How to read the price scale

Used · 8 sales

Median €175 · RRP €229

Example price is below the median · 72 % of RRP

Example values for illustration, not a real product: bar = range, white line = median, dashed = RRP, orange marker = the price being rated.

New prices

New prices come from the retailers’ product feeds, sorted by total price including shipping to Germany. We hide offers that a feed hasn’t confirmed for 72 hours. There are no paid placements.
